The Bambu Lab P2S with AMS has quickly become one of my favorite 3D printers to use. After spending time printing with it across multiple projects, I can confidently say this machine lives up to the hype, especially if you value speed, print quality, and a smooth overall experience.

First Impressions & Setup

Setup was refreshingly simple. From unboxing to first print, the process was straightforward and well-documented. Bambu Lab clearly put thought into making this printer accessible, even for users who don’t want to spend hours tweaking settings or troubleshooting firmware.

Within a short amount of time, the P2S was calibrated, connected, and printing flawlessly.

P2S vs P1s

The Bambu Lab P2S builds on the strong foundation of the P1S (the predecessor to the P2S), offering meaningful upgrades that improve speed, reliability, and ease of use. Its advanced extruder system reduces clogs and under-extrusion, while enhanced cameras and failure detection make monitoring prints easier than ever. Usability is also improved with a modern touchscreen and quick-swap nozzles, and refined cooling and chamber control deliver more consistent prints across a variety of materials. For anyone already impressed by the P1S, the P2S feels like a smarter, faster, and more reliable evolution. Take a look at a deeper breakdown of the differences to the two printers here.

Print Quality and Performance

The print quality has been excellent right out of the box. Layer lines are clean, details are sharp, and dimensional accuracy has been consistent across prints.

So far, I’ve printed with:

Both materials have performed extremely well with minimal tuning required. Adhesion has been solid, warping hasn’t been an issue, and the surface finish looks great even on functional parts.

One of the standout features is how reliable the printer has been. Failed prints have been rare. In fact, I’ve only had one failed print, and that was due to my own mistake of not drying the filament again after it had been sitting out for a while. Aside from that, the P2S has been extremely consistent.

AMS (Automatic Material System)

The AMS is a game-changer. Whether you’re doing multi-color prints or simply want automatic filament switching, it works smoothly and adds a lot of convenience.

Even if you’re mostly printing in a single material, having multiple filaments loaded and ready to go saves time and keeps workflow moving. It’s one of those features you don’t fully appreciate until you use it daily.

Speed Without Sacrificing Quality

The P2S is fast, very fast, but what’s impressive is that speed doesn’t come at the cost of quality. Prints that would normally take hours on other machines finish much sooner, while still looking clean and professional.

For anyone running a print farm, selling prints, or just impatient (like me), this is a huge win.

Who Is This Printer For?

  • Makers who want consistent, high-quality prints
  • Small businesses or side hustles producing parts
  • Anyone tired of constant printer tweaking
  • Users interested in multi-material or multi-color printing

Budget Friendly Printer

The Bambu Lab P2S Combo lands in a sweet spot for a high‑end desktop 3D printer, with the base P2S typically starting around $549 in the U.S. and the more fully featured P2S Combo (with the AMS multi‑filament system) around $799. This puts the P2S at the top of many peoples list for printers under $1000.

Cons

Some noteworthy cons of the P2S, of which there are few, include the lack of an actively heated chamber, which can limit the types of materials to be printed. The build volume is 256mm x 256mm x 256mm, which may be considered on the small to average size for printers nowadays. If you are looking for a bigger build volume but want to stay in the Bambu Labs family, check out the H2 series, which includes the H2S and H2D.

Overall Thoughts

After spending time with the Bambu Lab P2S with AMS, I can confidently say it’s been amazing with little to no issues. The combination of easy setup, excellent print quality, reliability, and speed makes it one of the best printers I’ve used.

If you’re looking for a machine that just works, and works well, the P2S is absolutely worth considering.
